Notice Regarding Google Region Issues

The previous Google region recognition issue affecting Cox Dual-ISP residential IPs, NTT, and Cogent Dual-ISP residential IPs has now been mostly resolved. The issue previously caused some IPs to be recognized as being located in Mainland China, which affected services such as YouTube Premium and Gemini.

This was not an easy issue to resolve, and we appreciate everyone’s patience during the process. At this time, only one new NTT subnet has not yet gone through its first full-subnet region recognition issue. This means that this specific new subnet may still experience a first-time full-subnet misclassification in the future. For the other subnets that have already experienced this issue and have been successfully recovered, based on our current experience, we do not expect another full-subnet misclassification to happen again in the same way.

Based on our observations, Google region recognition issues usually fall into two different situations. The first situation is a first-time full-subnet misclassification. In this case, an entire subnet may be recognized as being in Mainland China together. Since one /24 subnet usually contains more than 200 users, if some users enable location services, use Android devices, or trigger other common Google region signals, it may cause the entire subnet to be recognized incorrectly. The usual symptoms include YouTube Premium becoming unavailable, Gemini showing region restrictions, or other Google services reporting that the service is not supported in the current region.

For this type of first-time full-subnet issue, we have already deployed machines and scripts to recover the affected ranges. In most cases, recovery takes some time and usually completes within around 1 to 2 weeks. Since Google region recognition does not update instantly, the result may not change immediately even after we begin the recovery process.

The second situation is an individual environment issue after the subnet has already been recovered once. Based on our experience, if an IP from a previously recovered subnet is later recognized incorrectly again, it is usually caused by the individual user’s own usage environment rather than the entire subnet. In this case, it normally will not affect other users on the same subnet, and other neighboring users should not cause your IP to be affected again.

If you experience Google region recognition issues again on these IP ranges, especially with YouTube Premium, Gemini, or other Google services, we recommend treating it as an individual environment issue first. We can assist with installing a WARP split-routing script, or you may follow the guide below to recover the region recognition yourself. In most cases, this type of individual recovery may also take around 1 to 2 weeks:

We will continue monitoring the region recognition status of each IP range and adjust our handling process when necessary.
