We identified a network outage affecting our Germany Frankfurt 189.24.99.* node. VPS instances on this range may experience connectivity issues, and we immediately contacted our upstream provider for investigation.
UPDATE | August 15, 7:00 PM EDT
The 189.24.99.* node temporarily returned online. The host itself did not reboot, indicating that the incident was related to the upstream network rather than a server hardware or operating system failure. We continued working with the upstream provider and monitoring the node.
UPDATE | August 15, 8:45 PM EDT
We have now confirmed that the issue is affecting the upstream network as a whole, while the 189.24.99.* node and host itself remain operational. Intermittent connectivity is still being observed, and service may temporarily recover before becoming unstable again.
Based on current network behavior, an attack affecting the upstream network is considered the most likely cause, although final confirmation is still pending from the provider. Because the issue is occurring within the upstream network, it cannot be directly resolved from our server side.
We remain in contact with the upstream provider and will continue monitoring the network while waiting for service to stabilize. Further updates will be posted as they become available.
UPDATE | August 15, 10:30 PM EDT | Resolved
Our upstream provider has confirmed that earlier today, a fiber patch cable was inadvertently loosened during equipment installation at the Frankfurt datacenter. This caused the affected port to repeatedly flap between DOWN and UP, resulting in intermittent connectivity for the 189.24.99.* node. The earlier suspected attack has now been ruled out.
The fiber connection has been secured and network service is fully restored and stable. This incident is now resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience.
