We are currently investigating severe intermittent packet loss affecting some IP ranges on our Los Angeles Cogent network. Affected users may experience increased latency, unstable connections, or brief periods of connectivity loss.
Our initial investigation has not identified abnormal traffic, DDoS activity, server-side resource issues, or port congestion. Based on our observations, the issue originates within the upstream Cogent network.
We submitted an urgent trouble report to Cogent and continued monitoring the affected network closely.
Update - August 22, 2026, 9:30 PM EDT
We confirmed a widespread network issue affecting international ISP Cogent. The incident impacted multiple of our IP ranges located in downtown Los Angeles, causing severe intermittent packet loss, unstable connections, and brief periods of connectivity loss. Some IP ranges located in the greater Los Angeles suburban area were not affected.
During the incident, we also observed that Cogent’s official website was inaccessible. We reported the issue to Cogent by both email and phone. Cogent Support confirmed a widespread network issue affecting California and advised that they were aware of the situation and actively working on it. No estimated restoration time was available at that point.
Update - August 22, 2026, 10:05 PM EDT
Based on our continued monitoring, the severe packet loss observed earlier had subsided and the affected services returned to normal operation.
At the time of this update, Cogent had not yet formally confirmed full restoration. However, monitoring from multiple locations and actual network performance indicated that connectivity had returned to a stable state. We continued monitoring the affected network paths.
Final Update - August 22, 2026, 11:38 PM EDT
Cogent has now formally confirmed that the network incident has been resolved.
According to Cogent, the incident primarily occurred between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM EDT on August 22, 2026. Network issues in the southwestern United States caused network reconvergence, during which customers may have experienced increased latency, severe packet loss, protocol flaps, and other connectivity interference.
Cogent has confirmed that the underlying network issues have been resolved and that no further reconvergence is expected.
Our affected services continue to operate normally, and we consider this incident resolved. We will continue monitoring the network and will provide another update if any further abnormalities are observed.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.
Thank you for your business,
