Help Center: What to Do If Your Server Password is Incorrect

If you are trying to log in to your server via SSH (using tools like PuTTY or Terminal) and receive a "Password incorrect" or "Permission denied" error, this guide will help you resolve it.

Important: This guide is for your server's "root" password. If you cannot log in to your NovixLink client area account, please use the "Forgot Password" link on the login page.


Solution 1: Check Your Welcome Email

Your server's initial root password was sent to you in the "New Service Information" or "Welcome" email when you first purchased the service.

  1. Log in to the email account you used to register with NovixLink.
  2. Search your Inbox (and Spam/Junk folder) for an email from us with a subject line like "Your New VPS/Server Information".
  3. This email contains your server's IP address, username (usually root), and the initial password.
  4. Try copying and pasting the password directly from the email to avoid typos.

Note: If you have changed this password using our control panel, a new email with the updated password would have been sent to you at that time.

Solution 2: Reset the Root Password via the Control Panel

If you cannot find the email or have manually changed the password and forgot it, the most reliable method is to reset it directly from your client area.

  1. Log in to your NovixLink Client Area.
  2. Navigate to "Services" > "My Services" from the main menu.
  3. Find the server you are locked out of and click on it to open the management page.
  4. In the server control panel, look for a tab or button labeled "Root Password" or "Reset Root Password".
  5. Click the button. The system will generate a new, secure password for your server.
  6. IMPORTANT: The new password will be displayed on your screen. You must copy this password and save it in a safe place immediately. For security reasons, it may not be shown again.
  7. Your server may reboot as part of this process. Once it is back online, you can log in using the new password you just copied.
