Help Center: SSH Connection Failed & VNC Stuck on "Probing EDD"
Are you experiencing the following combination of symptoms?
- You are trying to connect to your server via SSH (e.g., PuTTY, Terminal) but receive a "Connection Refused" or "Connection Timed Out" error.
- When you log in to the NovixLink client area and open the server's VNC (Remote Console), the screen is black with white text and is stuck on "Probing EDD..." or a similar boot message, never reaching the login prompt.
What This Means
This combination of symptoms indicates that your server's Operating System (OS) failed to load correctly during its last boot attempt. This can sometimes be an intermittent or random (probabilistic) boot issue that prevents the system from starting fully.
Because the OS is not running, the SSH service (sshd) is also inactive, which is why your SSH connection fails.
Solution: Force a Reboot
This is usually not a permanent failure. In most cases, this issue can be resolved by forcing the server to reboot again via the control panel.
- Log in to your NovixLink Client Area.
- Navigate to "Services" > "My Services" from the main menu.
- Find the server you are unable to connect to and click on it to open the management page.
- In the server control panel, find the power control buttons (often under "Power Options").
- Click the "Reboot" button to force a restart of the server.
- Alternative: If the "Reboot" button does not seem to work, please click "Stop". Wait about 30 seconds for the server's status to show "Offline," and then click "Start".
- Please wait 1-2 minutes to allow the server to complete its new boot-up sequence.
- After waiting, try connecting via SSH again. You can also check the VNC, which should now show the proper login prompt.
Still Having Trouble?
If you perform a forced reboot and the issue persists (VNC is still stuck on "Probing EDD"), this may indicate a more serious file system issue. Please submit a support ticket immediately, and our technical team will investigate.
